Minecraft Potions

(Read time is about 5 minutes)

To start you need the following to start making potions:

Now to the optional stuff:

Heads up on some game mechanics:

Ok, now on to making the most common potion...

Instant Health: (Obviously it makes no sense to try to extend the duration of something instant)

  1. First add your water bottles into the brewing stand,
  2. Add Blaze Powder to the left slot to provide "fuel" for the brewing proccess,
  3. Add a Nether Wart and let that get worked into making Awkward Potions,
  4. Add a Glistering Melon Slice, (It's a Melon Slice surrounded by Gold Nuggets in the crafting table).
  5. Optionally to make it more effective you can add Glowstone Dust.
  6. Optionally to make it more versitile you can add Gunpowder to make it a splash potion. (So you can now heal your friend not just drop the potion to them)
  7. While you could add Dragon's Breath it really isn't quite effective.

Probably the second most common potion to make is...

Regeneration:

  1. Add your water bottles,
  2. Add your Blaze Powder to the left slot as "fuel", (If needed)
  3. Add Nether Wart,
  4. Add Ghast Tear,
  5. Now from here you have 2 ways you can go, Glowstone for strength,
  6. Or, Redstone Dust for duration,
  7. Optionally add Gunpowder to it to make it splash. (Again, why just heal yourself, heal a friend as well)

Now on to deadly potions...

Poison: (Keep in mind, poison can't kill a player/mob... you can get this from your own potion)

  1. Add your water bottles,
  2. Add your "fuel",
  3. Add your Nether Wart,
  4. Add Spider Eye,
  5. Optionally add Glowstone to make it deal more damage quickly,
  6. Optionally add Redstone to make poison last longer,
  7. Recommended to add Gunpowder to at least make it splash. (Why would you drink your own potion?)
  8. Optionally add Dragon's Breath to the splash to make it as I call it a "Gas Bomb", poison cloud.

Instant Damage: (Can kill well, everything... including yourself)

  1. Water bottles,
  2. "fuel"
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Spider Eye,
  5. Fermented Spider Eye, (Made by a Spider Eye, a Brown Mushroom and a Sugar all in one row)
  6. Optionally add Glowstone to make it more powerful,
  7. Again, Recommended to add Gunpowder. (Make it useful at least)
  8. While you could add Dragon's Breath it really isn't quite effective.

Ok, so what others? Utility Potions

Night Vision: (Save torches but of course expect mobs)

  1. Water bottles,
  2. "fuel"
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Golden Carrot, (Just like the Melon except with Carrot in the middle)
  5. Optionally add Redstone to increase duration,
  6. Makes no sense to add Glowstone but I guess you could to make it "stronger",
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Invisibility:

  1. Just take a Night Vision potion and add a Fermented Spider Eye.
  2. Then add your Redstone to make it last longer.
  3. You could add Glowstone to this... (it kinda makes sense)
  4. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Swiftness: (Speed man!)

  1. Water Bottles,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Sugar,
  5. Glowstone to make you run even faster,
  6. Or, Redstone to make you run longer,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Leaping: (Jumping)

  1. Water Bottles,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Rabit's Foot, (Yeah... kinda hard to get unless you have a Looting 3 Sword)
  5. Glowstone to allow you to just 2 blocks instead of 1!
  6. Or, Redstone to have the effect last longer,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Fire Resistance: (Ah, great thing to make if your going to spend alot of time in the nether)

  1. Water Bottles,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Magma Cream,
  5. Glowstone I think makes no sense,
  6. Redstone to increase your time in the lava,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Weakness: (Give you a upper hand advantage by reducing your opponents melee attack damage)

  1. Water Bottles,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Fermented Spider Eye,
  5. Glowstone doesn't make any sense... (Sadly)
  6. Redstone increases the time the foe is affected,
  7. Since this works best on someone else rather than you, Gunpowder to make it splash.
  8. You could add Dragon's Breath... not sure why but you could I guess.

Strength: (Opposite of Weakness, increases your melee attack damage)

  1. Water,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Blaze Powder in the middle as a ingredient.
  5. Glowstone increases the damage boost provided,
  6. Or, Redstone to allow more time,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Slowness: (Slows your opponent's movement down)

  1. Useing a Potion of Leaping just add Fermented Spider Eye and add your Glowstone to make it stronger or Redstone for longer.
  2. Also works great on someone else so Gunpowder (and Dragon's Breath)
  3. Way 2, Use a Potion of Swiftness instead of Leaping... and that's it.

Water Breathing: (Got a underwater base you want to build, no probz)

  1. Water,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Pufferfish, (Obtained from fishing)
  5. No Glowstone! (Just don't)
  6. Redstone for longer time underwater,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.

Turtle Master: (Slowness with damage resistance to all damage)

  1. Water,
  2. "fuel",
  3. Nether Wart,
  4. Turtle Shell,
  5. No Glowstone! (Just don't)
  6. Redstone for longer time with damage resistance but also increases slowness,
  7. Utility Potions tend to be just focused on you, so while you could add Gunpowder and then Dragon's Breath it really don't make sense too.
